Quanta Laser Hair Removal: Results, Sessions, and What to Expect

If shaving and waxing keep finding their way back onto your to-do list, you may be ready to explore a longer-term approach to unwanted hair. Before booking laser hair removal, it helps to understand how treatment works, whether it suits your skin and hair, and what results you can realistically expect.

At InMySkin Wellness & Aesthetics, we offer laser hair removal in Calgary using the EVO laser by Quanta. Treatment is tailored to your skin tone, hair characteristics, and the areas you would like to address, with the goal of reducing unwanted hair and making your routine easier to manage.

What Is Quanta Laser Hair Removal?

Quanta laser hair removal uses controlled light energy to target melanin, the pigment in hair. The hair absorbs this energy and converts it into heat, which damages the follicle and reduces its ability to produce new hair.

Because individual hairs move through different stages of growth, they are not all equally responsive to treatment at the same time. A series of appointments allows your provider to target more hairs as they enter a responsive growth phase.

Quanta’s Light EVO range includes different wavelength configurations and skin-cooling options. These provide flexibility when planning treatment, but the technology is only one part of the process. Appropriate settings, a thorough assessment, and the experience of your provider also matter.

Laser Hair Removal vs. Reduction: Is It Permanent?

“Laser hair removal” and “laser hair reduction” are often used to describe the same treatment. At InMySkin, we believe the distinction is worth explaining: the goal is long-term hair reduction, not a guarantee that every hair will disappear forever.

Results vary according to your skin tone, hair colour and thickness, treatment area, and individual response. Some people experience long periods with little regrowth, while others need occasional maintenance. Hair that returns may be finer and less noticeable.

Will Laser Hair Removal Work for My Skin Tone and Hair Colour?

Hair colour and skin tone both influence treatment planning. Dark, pigmented hair provides a clearer target for the laser, while white, grey, very light blonde, and red hair generally respond poorly because the laser cannot effectively target their pigment.

Darker skin tones can also be suitable for laser hair removal, but selecting the right technology and settings is particularly important. The provider should have experience treating your skin tone and explain the precautions relevant to you.

At your appointment, we assess your hair colour and thickness, skin tone, treatment areas, previous hair-removal methods, and goals. This helps determine whether laser treatment is a suitable option.

Tell your provider about recent tanning, medications, a history of unusual scarring, and any tendency to develop cold sores. These details can affect treatment planning and the precautions you need to follow.

How Does Laser Compare with Shaving, Waxing, and Electrolysis?

Each method manages unwanted hair differently. The right choice depends on your hair characteristics, treatment goals, and preferred approach to maintenance.

MethodHow it worksWhat to keep in mind
ShavingCuts hair at the skin’s surface.Provides a temporary result and requires regular upkeep.
WaxingPulls hair out from the root.Hair regrows, so repeat treatments are needed.
Laser hair reductionUses light energy to damage targeted follicles and reduce future growth.Requires a treatment series; maintenance may be needed.
ElectrolysisTreats individual follicles with an electrical current. Can provide permanent hair removal, including for light-coloured hairs that lasers cannot effectively target.

Shaving and waxing offer temporary hair removal, while laser treatment and electrolysis act on the follicle. Neither laser nor electrolysis should be presented as a single-session solution for every person or treatment area.

What Areas Can Be Treated?

Common treatment areas include the upper lip, chin, neck, underarms, arms, legs, back, chest, and shoulders. Bikini-line and Brazilian treatments are also options.

Appointment length depends on the area being treated. A smaller area requires less treatment time than larger areas such as the legs or back, so discuss the areas you would like to include when arranging your appointment.

What Happens During Treatment, and Does It Hurt?

Your appointment includes a review of your skin, hair, and treatment plan. Before treatment, the area is prepared and protective eyewear is provided. Your provider then delivers laser pulses across the treatment area, using the appropriate cooling approach to help protect the skin and improve comfort.

The sensation is often described as a brief snap, warmth, or a rubber band flicking against the skin. Comfort varies with the treatment area, hair density, settings, and your individual sensitivity.

Cooling can make the experience more comfortable, but it does not make treatment completely sensation-free. Let your provider know how your skin feels throughout the appointment.

How Many Sessions Will I Need, and When Will I See Results?

At InMySkin, we recommend starting with a series of six treatments and then reassessing hair growth. This is a starting plan, not a guarantee that everyone will need exactly six appointments. Hair thickness, skin tone, treatment area, hormonal factors, and growth cycles can all influence your response.

Appointments are spaced several weeks apart. Our published guidance generally places facial treatments around four to six weeks apart and body treatments around six to eight weeks apart, with your provider confirming the schedule appropriate for you. A treatment course therefore requires planning over several months.

You may notice changes after an early appointment, but treated hairs do not necessarily disappear immediately. They shed over time, while other hairs become targets for later sessions.

As treatment progresses, hair may become less dense, finer, slower growing, and easier to manage. At reassessment, we review your response and discuss whether additional or maintenance treatments would be useful.

How to Prepare for Your Laser Hair Removal Appointment

Preparation helps your provider treat the intended hair while reducing avoidable risks to your skin. Follow the instructions provided for your appointment, including any adjustments based on your medical history or recent sun exposure.

Shave Rather Than Wax or Pluck

Our published preparation guidance recommends shaving approximately 24 hours before your appointment and avoiding waxing, tweezing, or threading for at least four to six weeks beforehand.

Waxing and plucking remove hair from the follicle, interfering with what the laser needs to target. Shaving trims the surface hair while leaving the portion below the skin in place.

Avoid Tanning and Protect Your Skin

Avoid tanning beds and self-tanning products, and tell your provider about any recent tan or sunburn. Follow the recommended sun-avoidance period before and after treatment.

For exposed skin, use a broad-spectrum, water-resistant sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher. Sunscreen supports protection but does not replace the need to avoid tanning and follow your provider’s instructions.

Arrive With the Treatment Area Clean

Remove makeup, deodorant, lotions, and other products from the area before your session, as directed by our team. Ask ahead of time about any skincare products you are unsure about.

What Is Recovery Like After Laser Hair Removal?

Temporary redness, swelling, warmth, or sensitivity can occur after treatment. Many people return to everyday activities, but the skin still needs care and protection. A cool compress may help relieve discomfort.

We recommend avoiding hot showers, saunas, and strenuous workouts for 24–48 hours. Follow your provider’s instructions if your skin needs a longer recovery period.

Keep cleansing gentle, avoid scrubbing or picking the treated area, and protect it from sun exposure while it recovers.

Are There Risks?

Laser hair removal is not risk-free. Possible complications include burns, blistering, infection, changes in skin colour, and scarring. Appropriate equipment, provider training, protective eyewear, and careful treatment planning help reduce these risks.

Contact your provider promptly if you develop blistering, significant pain, or a reaction that worsens rather than settles.

Frequently Asked Questions About Laser Hair Removal

Can I Shave Between Appointments?

Yes, shaving leaves the hair below the skin’s surface in place which is needed for laser to be effective. Follow your provider’s guidance on when to resume shaving after each session, particularly if the area remains sensitive. Avoid waxing or plucking between treatments.

Can I Have Laser Hair Removal in Summer?

The important consideration is your skin’s condition and ability to avoid tanning and protect the treated area- not simply the season. Discuss outdoor activities and upcoming holidays before scheduling. If you have a tan, treatment should wait until it has faded and your provider has reassessed your skin.

Does Laser Hair Removal Work on Peach Fuzz?

Fine facial hair, often called peach fuzz, does not respond like coarse, pigmented hair. A consultation helps determine whether the hair you want to address is a suitable laser target or whether another approach would be more appropriate.

How Much Does Laser Hair Removal Cost at InMySkin?

For current pricing, contact our team with the areas you would like treated. Before choosing a package, ask how many appointments it includes, what happens at reassessment, and whether additional or maintenance sessions would be charged separately.
